If you have ever wanted to experience an adventure on an exotic island, then travelling to Costa Rica is a dream comes true. Costa Rica is located in the midst of the Pacific Ocean on to the Caribbean Sea. The island is small, just 20 thousand square miles, and yet in this small area you can explore a whole variety of different landscapes.
The numerous beaches, located along the coast of Costa Rica, would be enough to tempt any traveller to stop and visit. However, there are more sights to see and places to visit inland. One of these is Monteverdi. This is practically a world of its own, located far above the coastal regions that Costa Rica is famous for. Monteverdi is located on Costa Rica’s continental divide and is 4,662 ft above sea level. The altitude of this area causes it to have moisture in the form of fog on a regular basis. This makes it a prime place for coffee plantations and to some it might even seem mysterious. Constant fog or mist, the cloud forests, the constant chatter of monkeys and other wildlife can cause even a casual stroll to feel like an adventure.
Other points of interest in Costa Rica would include the many volcanoes. There are 61 dormant volcanoes and 6 active ones at this time. Arenal was the most active for many years and the most visited by tourists. One feature that attracts tourist to this particular area is the natural hot springs. Many of these also have an uninhibited view of the volcano so tourists, no matter their budget, can relax as they take in this mighty force of nature. There are other volcanoes to visit such as the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano. People can actually hike to the top of this volcano if they wish too. It is 6 miles to the top but well worth the exercise.
Now, to the beaches of Costa Rica. There are almost 300 beaches located on the Pacific and Caribbean coastlines. Within these you can find any type of pastime you could wish for. Some of these beaches are covered in fine white sand and are perfect for getting a perfect tan and swimming. Others have rocks and shells scattered along them, which makes it perfect for those who want to go treasure hunting. Some beaches are not as good for swimming as they are for surfing. Each one is beautiful and special in their own way, choosing which to visit is actually harder than finding something to do once you arrive.
There is so much more that Costa Rica has to offer. Canoeing through the mangrove channels, surfing off the numerous beaches, not to mention visiting the historical cities that are well known the world over. Costa Rica is a gem that is not to be taken in all at once. Every part of the experience has to be savoured and is guaranteed to be one that is not easily forgotten. So when you plan that perfect vacation and want a touch of mystery, romance and adventure, Costa Rica is the destination for you.
